Super Bowl ads to look forward to
January 30, 2015
This weekend, millions will watch the Super Bowl and indulge in the second-biggest eating day of the year. Although the main spectacle is the Pats and Seahawks going head-to-head, the advertisements have somewhat stolen the spotlight from the players in recent years. The cost of a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl is more than $4 million nowadays, so you know companies don’t hold back. Let’s take a look at what companies are notorious for showing up big and what new arrivals we have to look forward to.
Classics
– Budweiser: The Clydesdale horses and the stories they tell are second-to-none. The company released this year’s early and it was so adorable my heart imploded from cuteness overload.
– Kia: Kia Motors may not be a classic, but car commercials are always expected and usually deliver, like Chrysler’s Eminem spot. This year, Kia takes an old action star and adds a pretty fun spin to it, but I’ll try not to spoil it for you.
– Doritos and Skittles: These two are known for creating commercials that are completely ludicrous and creative. They’re also especially good at hiring talent from the general public, so we’ll see what they choose this year.
– Movie studios: One of the few trailers confirmed thus far is “Jurassic World,” but it’s likely we’ll see the trailer for “Ted 2,” since it airs this week. Another short, yet amazing teaser to look out for is “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.” Trust me, I’ve seen it and it’s perfect. Hopeful viewers are praying for “Star Wars” spots as well as “Batman vs. Superman,” but those are a bit of a stretch.
Newcomers
– Eat24: The new food delivery app is stepping it up and word has it they’ve got Snoop Dogg and Gilbert Gottfried endorsing them. And yes, it’s pretty dang funny.
– Wix.com: Like Kia, Wix is taking a celebrity who may be past his prime and putting him in a new scenario. It’ll resonate well with the football crowd, I’ll tell you that much.
– Victoria’s Secret: This year, the angels decided to take a different route-or more like the complete opposite route. The angels are joining in the football fun this year to wake men up to the fact that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. That reminds me …
– T-Mobile: They decided to bring in Kim Kardashian, which upset me at first, but it’s honestly well-done and takes some nice stabs at Kim. Well played, T-Mobile.
