KFC’s newest deep-fried monstrosity

A hot dog wrapped in fried chicken? Yep. KFC went there. The new Double Down Dog is meat on meat and slathered with some sort of cheese concoction, making it a menu item only the heart-healthy should consider.

This match made in calorie heaven hasn’t breached the shores of America —and there are no plans to, according to KFC — but it’s been a hit in the Philippines. Only 50 sandwiches were offered at select locations today, but they were sold out, as USAToday.com puts it, “by the time many Americans were getting ready for work.” Tomorrow 50 more will be available.

This isn’t the first time KFC has cast aside the bun. Back in 2010, some U.S. locations offered the Double Down sandwich — bacon and cheese in the center, surrounded by a deep-fried chicken “bun.”
