Five things to know about ISU gymnastics against top-10 opponents

Iowa State will square off against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Louisiana State and No. 8 Arkansas at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 31. Here are a few things to note about Iowa State’s history when matching up against top-10 opponents:

– Iowa State’s last victory against a top-10 program was on March 5, 2006. On that date, the Cyclones traveled down to Lincoln, Neb. and defeated the No. 10 Cornhuskers by a score of 196.250-196.125. At the time, Iowa State was ranked fifth nationally.

– From 2007-2014, Iowa State is 0-43 against top-10 opponents.

– In five of the Cyclones’ last eight seasons, they have, at one or multiple points in the season, squared off against the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA Division I gymnastics.

– The highest ranked opponent that Iowa State has beaten in its school history was No. 6 Oklahoma in 2006. The No. 9 Cyclones defeated the Sooners in Norman, Okla. on Feb. 10, 2006.

5. Iowa State has yet to face a top-10 opponent this season, although Oregon State, who the Cyclones matched up against at Beauty and the Beast, is now ranked No. 10.
