Bond title, cast, and car announced
December 5, 2014
Yesterday was a big day for fans of the Ian Fleming franchise “James Bond,” as the name, cast and new car were all announced for the 24th installment of the franchise.
Director Sam Mendes will return to run the show, and he kicked off the announcement event first with the title. With a short video the title “Spectre” was slowly revealed on the screen with the classic Bond music. Spectre, for old fans of the franchise, stands for Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.
The next item on the agenda was the vehicle–of course. Carrying on with the tradition, Mendes revealed the new Aston Martin model. The one-of-a-kind model that they created for the film is the Aston Martin DB10, and is one gorgeous piece of machinery, as is everything Aston Martin makes. The big news of the day was clearly the cast, and Mendes had rumors to either clear up or confirm.
Returning to the film as expected are Ralph Fiennes playing M, Naomie Harris playing Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw playing Q, and Rory Kinnear playing Tanner.
Joining the cast is Andrew Scott from the show “Sherlock” playing Denbigh, Dave Bautista from “Guardians of the Galaxy” playing the henchman Mr. Hinx, and two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz playing a character named Oberhauser. Oberhauser is the name of Bond’s old ski instructor, but it’s rumored that his role will switch as Bond’s old enemy Blofeld.
As for the women joining the cast, Italian actress Monica Bellucci and French actress Lea Seydoux will be the new ‘Bond Girls.’
The plot revealed by the studio was vague, but will see “a cryptic message from Bond’s past send him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre.”
The film will release in the UK in October of 2015 and a month later in the U.S. and star Daniel Craig says that they’ve got a better script than they had last time, and will be a “continuation of ‘Skyfall.’”
