With the premiere of the widely anticipated Christopher Nolan film, “Interstellar”, this weekend, we’re here to give you a recap and a few interesting details.

It wasn’t the biggest movie this weekend. Disney’s ‘Big Hero 6″ beat it out, taking in $56.2 million over “Interstellar”‘s $50 million. This was due to families heading out to see the more kid-friendly movie versus the 169-minute long intense thriller.

Interstellar has been garnering hype for the past year after a photo of an IMAX camera bolted onto a Learjet made its way onto the internet. This film by Christopher Nolan definitely lives up to the hype, featuring gorgeous scenery, incredible acting, heartbreaking moments, and the classic Nolan mind blow.

One of the most intense scenes is brought to you by a Black Hole, and the best thing is–it’s based on science. That’s right, the effects software used in creating this film was governed by actual physics equations, generated by astrophysicist Kip Thorne, and soon to be published as new discoveries.

Neil deGrasse Tyson even chimed in on Twitter, backing up the science with comments such as:

“In : The producers knew exactly how, why, & when you’d achieve zero-G in space.”

“In : You observe great Tidal Waves from great Tidal Forces, of magnitude that orbiting a Black Hole might create.”

and also

In : On another planet, around another star, in another part of the galaxy, two guys get into a fist fight.”

We’ve included a plot summary infographic for you, so if you’ve seen it and are still confused, check that out. If you haven’t seen the movie yet–make some time and go see it. You won’t be disappointed.
