Bed time beauty remedies

Rachel Geronimo

The sun is setting and the night is slowly rolling in. Before hitting the hay, there are certain remedies individuals should consider. Elizabeth River, Massage Heights representative and student studying esthetic at DMACC, suggested some important night-time pampers to earn that beauty sleep.

“My suggestions before going to bed would just be to take care of yourself,” Rivera said. “Find a routine that works for you.”

Wash Your Face

The Importance of washing your face is critical. Rivera explained that readers should let their skin breathe from a days worth of absorbed residue and dirt or pollution from their surroundings.

“Before going to bed it is important wash your face,” Rivera said. “You don’t want to clog your pores overnight and you don’t want to spread any of that dirt or makeup on the pillows that your face will be buried in all night.”

Rivera explained that the skin around an individual’s eye is an area where dirt can collect due to its thinness.

“It is important to always wash off that eyeliner and mascara because you don’t want anything to lay on that skin overnight. This can cause infections and STDs,” Rivera said.

For a much cleaner process, make sure to use makeup remover.

Forever Young

Even if you don’t have wrinkles, don’t wait to treat them.

Prevent wrinkles by providing your skin with collagen. Anti-wrinkle cream or serum is a great way to rejuvenate and to keep the skin supple.

Anti-wrinkle cream or serum contains collagen which is a protein made up of amino acids. These amino acids, which are in turn built of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, help build stronger and finer lines of skin.

Apply your anti-wrinkle product after washing your face for a more effective result of younger and cleaner-looking skin.

Polished Nails

Are those cuticles looking dull? Try perking them up with some extra-virgin olive oil.

High-quality extra-virgin olive oil provides a high content of antioxidants like polyphenols and vitamins E and K. These natural benefits will brighten up and shine the nails.

Apply a quality amount of the oil to a nail in a circular motion. Buff the nail with a cotton swab and let the product dry overnight.

Hair

When it comes to taking care of hair, there are many remedies readers should be aware of before sleeping

River suggested that individuals should never  sleep with their hair tied or in a bun.

“Ponytails and buns actually tear the hair. That’s why you never want to leave it tied overnight or have it tied if it’s wet,” Rivera said.

If dry hair is a particular problem, Rivera advised individuals to add their favorite type of hair moisturizer.

“Cotton pillows tend to strip hair of their natural moisture and cause frizz,” Rivera said. “Another suggestion would be to switch to satin pillows or get a satin cap to sleep in at night.”

Concerned about not having time to do your hair in the morning? Prepping your hair at night is a good routine, so consider the following.

River suggests that readers  consider twisting, braiding, even adding pincurls for an easy, ready-to-go hairstyle.

Skin

Cool air is finally blowing in the season, so individuals want to prevent their skin from becoming dry. A way to keep your skin rejuvenated and supple is with black tea.

Black tea contain vitamins such as E, B, and C, as well as other essential polyphenols and tannin. These rich nutrients help build nice, clean and soft skin.

Consider placing moist tea bags under the eyes-which reduce redness-or taking a warm bath with black tea – which helps rejuvenate the skin

An alternative way to moisturize the skin is by using a humidifier.

The humidifier instills the air with moisture. This helps plump your skin and keep it hydrated.
