Ward: Death with dignity
November 12, 2014
The Death with Dignity act has been around since 1994, but it wasn’t until a terminally ill brain tumor patient named Brittany Maynard told her story nationally that it became a hot button topic. The act allows a terminally ill patient to take a lethal dose of a life-ending medication to end their suffering. Brittany did just that on Nov. 2. In the face of a terminal illness, everyone should have the right to fight their own battle in their own way, just as they should have the right to choose when enough is enough. They shouldn’t have to fall to the mercy of their illness — they should have the right to die with dignity.
