Branen Berta’s Big 12 Boost

Mike Randleman

When the ISU volleyball team was facing top-15 opponents in Florida State, Nebraska and Stanford early on in conference play, freshman Branen Berta was often on the sideline as her transition to collegiate volleyball was a steep one early on. Berta eventually hit her stride as conference play began and has become one of Iowa State’s best passers off the bench.

In Big 12 play, she has competed in every set and has been an integral part of Iowa State’s defensive attack. Here are three games where her impact was best seen on the stat sheet:

1. Oct. 25 at Baylor: In a 3-2 loss to the Bears, Berta posted a career-high 18 digs and one assist.

2. Oct. 8 at Kansas State: In a 3-1 loss to the Wildcats, Berta posted 10 digs to record her second of four matches with 10 or more digs. She also recorded two service aces and two assists.

3. Sept. 27 at TCU: In a 3-1 loss to the Horned Frogs, Berta posted 11 digs to go with two assists and a service ace.
