Cyclone Rewind: Lego Movie

“The Lego Movie” was good but not great, and wasn’t meant to be the greatest animated movie ever. It was made to be silly and to entertain anyone who has a little bit of kid inside of them.

All in all, “The Lego Movie” was an enjoyable film with sparks of comedy and a few heartwarming sequences. The movie provides a certain nostalgia for anyone who grew up playing with Legos or for any parents who built with their children.

While the moral of the story is the cliche to be yourself because you are awesome just the way you are, it does not distract from the storyline of how the main character discovers this. Much of this is due to the movie switching in and out of real life and Lego life, with the Legos acting as a mode of communication between a father and son.

The movie definitely benefits from using easily recognized characters such as Batman. Much of the comedy would not have come across without universal characters. Similarly, “The Lego Movie” prospers from the all star cast and many cameos. The big name actors that take part in the film are introduced to a new audience of children who would not normally see a movie with them in it.

Any movie with both Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson is destined to achieve a decent amount of success. These popular actors, plus many more, allow for the older portion of the audience to connect with the story and provide context to the characters that only the older audience would understand. Due to this, the movie is an enjoyable experience for everyone. Adults are not ‘forced’ to sit through it, and teenagers can be nostalgic about both Legos and some of the actors’ other movies.
