Volleyball keys to victory against Oklahoma

In the 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 win against West Virginia, freshman outside hitter Alexis Conaway spikes the ball and earns a point for her team. Conaway had 12 kills in the game on Oct. 4.

The ISU volleyball team will face Oklahoma on Oct. 12 at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones are 1-3 in conference play entering the match, so a win would go far to keep Iowa State in contention for the Big 12 crown. Here are the keys to victory:

1. Capitalize on mistakes: Oklahoma’s defense has been hot and cold against Iowa State in the past. If the Cyclones can take advantage of defensive lapses and get ahead early, withstanding a run by Oklahoma will be much easier.

2. Spread the love: To keep Oklahoma’s strong middle blockers guessing, ISU setter Suzanne Horner will need to get the ball to as many of her hitters as she can. Horner is good as masking her passing intentions, which will also keep the UO defense on its toes.

3. Get healthy: Outside hitter Ciara Capezio has been hampered by injury in the last couple of weeks, only playing in eight of the last 15 sets. In Iowa State’s loss at Kansas State Oct. 8, Capezio had one kill and hit at a clip of -.375.
