Solo gets a makeover

Solo received a makeover in the form of a new, shiny red aluminum head.

The statue, set up in the Elizabeth and Byron Anderson Sculpture Garden near the Hub, had its head stolen in September 2013 after the Cy-Hawk game weekend in Ames.

Following an investigation that had no leads, University Museums reached out to artist William King, whose art is featured in other places on campus.

King fashioned a new aluminum head, worth thousands of dollars, that was placed on top of the body.

Allison Sheridan, collections manager and communications coordinator at University Museums, said they realized the colors of the body and the head would most likely not match. The body was repainted after the head was attached.

The investigation about Solo and another investigation about a bronze owl statue that was taken from outside Morrill Hall are both still open.
