Iowa State captures second title on day two of Big 12 Outdoor Championships

Day two of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships was highlighted by the performance of All-American junior Christina Hillman.

Hillman defended her indoor title by winning the shot put with a season-best hurl of 57 feet, 8.5 inches.

In the men’s shot put, sophomore Jan Jeuschede earned fifth place with a mark of 59 feet, 7.5 inches.

In total, five Cyclones marked scoring performances on day two of the competition. 

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Sanderson scored 6,925 points in the decathlon, which earned him seventh place. Junior Bree Woelber followed that up in the women’s heptathlon with a personal-best 5,058 points. 

Freshmen Derek Jones and Kris Brander each posted career-best performances in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with finishes that qualified them for the finals in fourth and sixth position respectively. 

Junior Edward Kemboi qualified for the finals in third place in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.15.

Redshirt senior Ejiro Okoro also qualified for tomorrow’s 800-meter final with a time of 2:04.47, which was a personal record for her. 

Overall, the Cyclones earned 15 personal records heading into the third and final day of the championships.
