“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” Review
May 10, 2014
With some great box office success with the first film in this series, the sequel “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is at it again.
This movie picks up not long after the first film. Peter Parker, who we all know and love as the mysterious Spider-Man, is just graduating from high school and moving on to college.
Do not worry — none of this takes away from Peter’s role as Spider-Man. He still kicks just as much tail as ever to keep the streets of New York City safe, but he does still live at home with Aunt May.
While out fighting crime, Peter saves the life of an Oscorp employee named Max Dillon, who afterward becomes obsessed with Spider-Man. Max later has a freak accident while on the job at Oscorp and falls into a tank full of electric eels, mutating him into the evil villain who then calls himself “Electro.”
While it is Spider-Man’s job to keep the city safe from villains such as Electro, it ends up being quite a challenge for Peter. Electro is far more powerful than any of the other previous villains Peter has faced in the past.
There is also another villain that unexpectedly comes into play toward the end of the film, but I will not spoil the details for you.
There are also a few side plots of this film. Peter attempts to keep his promise to Gwen’s father to keep Gwen safe by steering clear of her completely. As you might have guessed, keeping his promise is not easy for Peter. Peter also continues to search for more information about the disappearance of his parents.
With all of the plot details out of the way, I think it is safe to say that this movie lives up to its title as amazing. It is not quite as strong as some other superhero movies have been, but it is pretty darn good.
I loved the first film in this series, and this movie was made in about the same way, only better. The visual scenery is electrifying, and it is packed with plenty of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. I was not able to catch the 3D showing of this movie due to time conflicts, but I could tell just tell how great it would look.
That being said, the plot could use a bit of thickening. The storyline is very meek and dry, but at least it is simple to follow.
After this film, I am looking forward to a great series of movies in the years to come. It is expected that there will be at least one more movie, but is also likely we could see more than that.
