Ames mayor in critical condition after heart attack

Mayor Ann Campbell was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center after experiencing a heart attack on Tuesday morning according to a statement released by the city of Ames.

The statement explained that “an angioplasty procedure was performed to address an arterial blockage” after she arrived at the hospital.

Mark Hamilton, Campbell’s brother, stated in the news release that the mayor is in critical condition following surgery.

“We are grateful to all the people who stepped in to assist Ann during this crisis,” Hamilton said in the release. “The surgery went well, and while she’s still in critical condition, we are optimistic about her long-term recovery.”

Susan Gwiasda, the public relations officer for the city of Ames, stated that the family has become involved, and no further information will be released without their permission.
