ISU softball struggles with offensive inconsistency in loss to Drake

DES MOINES — The Iowa State softball team fell to .500 on the season with a 10-9 loss to Drake on Wednesday night.

After getting ahead early in the first inning 5-0, Iowa State saw its lead dissipate after inconsistency on offense after its first at bat.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the fourth 6-5, and never looked back.

After Drake added four more runs to extend its lead to 10-5, Iowa State was struggling to find an answer.

In the last at-bat for the Cyclones in the top of the seventh, the team was able to rally for four runs before the tying run was thrown out at the plate.

Iowa State will face off against Texas this weekend in a three-game series. The opener will start at 4 p.m. Friday evening in Ames.
