The Iowa Board of Regents meeting was interrupted March 12 when four University of Iowa students protested an upcoming efficiency study.

A video on press-citizen.com shows the students repeatedly chanting, “Ditch Deloitte. Stop the audit.”

Deloitte was selected as the consultant on the Efficiency and Transformation Review study at the February 11 telephonic regent meeting.

The Efficiency and Transformation Review study is a review of Iowa’s public universities. Universities would be reviewed on aspects such as support services, academic support programs, information technology services and development of strategic plans to carry out each university’s mission, the Efficiency and Transformation Review proposal said.

The review would recommend methods to cut costs and increase efficiency.

There is not a set budget set for the review.

The consultant will visit each campus to answer questions and hear concerns.

University of Iowa President Sally Mason said this was the first time she had heard concerns about the study, according to the Press-Citizen.

John McCarroll, university relations, said the protestors said their chant, then were escorted out by University of Iowa security and that there was no confrontation.
