The Iowa State Film Producers Club is in the preproduction stages of a web series called “Public University” that is similar to the genres of “Friends,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

Protagonist Sarah transfers to Iowa State after a scandal occurs at her former Ivy League school. She is taken under the wing of her older brother, his girlfriend and their friend, Kevin.

Mackenzie Watson, junior in performing arts, has been involved with the film club since her sophomore year.

“The gang navigates through the ups and downs of college life and enrich themselves through the adventure that is Iowa State,” Watson said.

Iowa State’s Theatre program has been teaming up with the club on their latest endeavor.

“Whenever we do projects that involve people acting, we like to reach out to the theatre department for people who are possibly interested in acting for film to help build their profile,” Watson said.

The club is currently seeking members in the theatre program to participate. Club members are also encouraged to volunteer in order to gain more experience in directing, producing and editing film.

Public University will make its debut on YouTube. However, the club is hoping that ISUtv will take notice and add it to their channel.

“The gang navigates through the ups and downs of college life and enrich themselves through the adventure that is Iowa State,” Watson said.

Filming will begin in early April and will be picked back up during the fall semester.
