The ISU softball team played the second day of tournament at Troy Cox Classic. It played New Mexico State losing the first game 4-3. Iowa State’s second game was against Northern Colorado winning 9-1.

In the first game New Mexico State came out swinging. By the 3rd inning New Mexico State was up 4-1. Iowa State could not seem to catch up and lost its first game this season.

Junior Paris Imholz and freshman Katie Johnson both pitched the first game for the Cyclones. This was only Imholz’s second game this season. She gave up three runs. Johnson let in the next two runs.

Sophomore designated hitter Aly Cappaert really came out swinging against New Mexico State. Cappaert managed to hit a home run and three RBIs in just the first game.

The second game of the night against Northern Colorado was an entirely new story. The game ended after only 5 innings.

Cappaert hit yet again another homerun in the first inning with two RBIs. Just after the third inning, Iowa State was up 7-1.

Senior right fielder Sara Hawryluk hit a triple in the bottom of the second giving the Iowa State the lead it needed to win.

Iowa State will play Sunday against Texas A&M in the Troy Cox Classic. After this weekend, Iowa Sate will be on the road to Calif. for the Marriot Bronco Classic.
