Let us skip the obligatory play-on-words associated with the Blue Man Group and cut straight to the chase: they are coming.

The Des Moines Civic Center will be the place to be starting Feb. 18 to 23. Their numerous performances throughout the week make it easy for you to snag a ticket for a time conducive to your schedule.

Benjamin Forster, member of the Blue Man Group, graduated from New York University with honors. After appearing in various TV shows, commercials, and films, Forster auditioned for the group.

Although he did not perform at Iowa State last year, he did note that college campus audiences exude a different vibe.

“We love going to campuses because they’re basically ready to party. We’re creating energy in the room and unity and togetherness so at the end of the show we can have a party together,” Forster said.

The trio has an all new set, sound and video design. Coupled with an enormous LED curtain and high-resolution screen, their show will make for a visually stunning experience.

Most of their instruments are composed of PVC pipe and other unexpected elements.

“I really like playing the drumbone which is one big piece of PVC pipe. There are three roles in the show: right, center, and left and we’re all able to play this instrument together,” Forster said.

Co-Founder Philip Stanton discusses tackling the different stages the group encounters on their tour.

“We needed to find a way to transform theatres of all shapes and sizes into spaces in which the Blue Man [Group] can intimately connect with the audience, where the audience can become engaged with the spirit of the show and the Blue Man [Group] himself,” Stanton said. “We think we have finally figured it out, and hopefully we will accomplish our goal, which is always to help audience members reconnect with their own sense of wonder and discovery, with their own sense of what is possible in their lives.”

Evocative music provided by a live band will accompany the bald and blue men. The audience will be taken on a journey with exciting new content and classic favorites.

Appealing to all ages and cultural backgrounds, the Blue Man Group defies categorization and will leave you in an awestruck stupor by the time the show ends.
