Iowa State has found its new offensive coordinator, the ISU athletic department announced Monday afternoon.

ISU coach Paul Rhoads is set to speak to speak to the media at 4:30 p.m. The Cyclones fired offensive coordinator Courtney Messingham on Dec. 1 one day following its season-ending victory against West Virginia.

Mangino was the first coach to ever be recognized as a national coach of the year and national assistant coach of the year.

In Mangino’s head coaching tenure at Kansas, which lasted from 2002-09, he led the Jayhawks to 12 wins in 2007 and the 2008 Orange Bowl championship. In his stint at Kansas, Mangino led his team to four bowl games, winning three.

Mangino served as an assistant coach at Kansas State (1991-98) and Oklahoma (1999-01) before being named the head coach at Kansas. In his time as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma for the Sooners’ national championship in 2001, Mangino developed a reputation with his ability to direct spread offenses efficiently.

He was most recently the tight ends coach and associate head coach at Youngstown State, his alma mater.
