Two deaths, one injury befall Ames community in recent days

There have been two deaths of Ames community members in the last four days.

Around 12 p.m. on Jan. 7, a woman reported to Ames Police Department that a man had shot himself at the Old Orchard Mobile Home Park. When police arrived at 112 Blueberry Court, a man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Despite medical care provided by Mary Greeley Medical Center and Ames Fire Department personnel, the wound was determined not survivable. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

On January 9, Ames Police reported a head-on vehicular accident in the 1100 block of East 13th Street.

Around 5:30 p.m., the east-bound vehicle of a 70-year-old Ames man crossed the center line and struck the west side of the Skunk River Bridge. Ames Police said that the car bounced off and collided with a west-bound vehicle.

The driver of the east-bound vehicle was pronounced dead at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

The driver of the west-bound vehicle, a 55-year-old Ames woman, obtained serious injuries and was taken to the medical center. No update of her condition is available at this time.
