The Addams Family Musical returns from a five week break from touring and is making a stop in Ames.

Shaun Rice, who plays Uncle Fester, said the tour is expected to run until May or June of this year, but is unsure if there is another tour to follow after this year.

Rice describes Uncle Fester, bald and slightly rotund Addams family member, as a loner with a big heart. Uncle Fester also likes to experiment with electricity and is in love with the moon.

“He himself has a kind of affair with the moon, a kind of fantastical love affair that he obviously can’t fulfill. But he uses that romantic energy to helping everyone else,” Rice said.

Rice knew he wanted to audition for the part of Uncle Fester when he first heard about the musical. Rice has been a fan of the Addams family when he first started watching the sitcom.

Even when Rice was watching the sitcom growing up he remembers being a fan of Uncle Fester.

“I think of all the family members I can relate to him the most. He’s weird and quirky, but he has a very large heart. He’s got a very big soft side,” Rice said.

Rice knew he wanted to pursue a career in performing arts when he was in second grade. He loved performing in school and community plays.

In his free time Rice makes videos for his YouTube channel “Living Out Of Suitcases.” This channel is a mix of traveling and packing tips, as well as an inside look at the typical life he leads on tour. Rice also commented on the cast of the Addams Family Musical.

“This is probably the best cast I’ve ever worked with. Every single person is incredibly talented and just the nicest people to work with. When you’re in an environment like we are with the same people literally 24/7…. It’s really really refreshing,” Rice said.

The Addams Family Musical is about Wednesday Addams, Uncle Fester’s niece, who falls in love with a boy whom her parents have yet to meet. Wednesday trust this secret with her father until the night when the Addams family host a dinner for her boyfriend and his parents.

“[I want] just to let people know what there in for when they come to see The Addams Family. It’s a really really funny show and it’s written to be almost in a style of the old sitcom back in the 50’s. It’s got a lot of family humor in there,”  Price said.

The Addams Family Musical will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Stephens auditorium. Tickets can be bought online at Ticketmaster or at the north entrance of Stephens auditorium.
