Iowa State researcher resigns after allegations of falsified research results

Federal documents released on Monday by the Health and Human Services Department found that Dong-Pyou Han, a former assistant professor of biomedical sciences at Iowa State University, “engaged in research misconduct.”

Han, who resigned in October, was part of an Iowa State research team working on an AIDS vaccine.

The federal notice stated that Han “falsified results in research to develop a vaccine against human immunodeficiency virus-1 [HIV-1] by intentionally spiking samples of rabbit sera with antibodies to provide the desired results.”

The Office of Research Integrity also stated that Han has voluntarily agreed to not participate in any federally financed research for the next three years.
