ISU women’s basketball picked to finish sixth in Big 12 preseason poll

The ISU women’s basketball team was selected to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason poll. Oklahoma was picked to win the Big 12 regular season title by the conference’s head coaches.

Iowa State graduated two of its three leading scorers from last season in Anna Prins and Chelsea Poppens. However, Iowa State will return its leaders in points and assists in senior forward Hallie Christofferson and junior guard Nikki Moody.

The Cyclones finished last season with a 24-9 record and came in second in the Big 12. Iowa State went on to lose in the Big 12 championship game to Baylor and make it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Oklahoma received five first-place votes in the poll while Baylor, who won the last three regular season titles, was picked to finish second. West Virginia and Oklahoma State tied for third.

Texas was picked to finish in fifth place. Iowa State was followed by Kansas, Texas Christian, Kansas State and Texas Tech in the poll.
