Iowa State University hosted the student organized workshop “Energy, Transportation and Water Infrastructures: Policy and Social Perspectives” on July 17.

The workshop was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and several other ISU organizations. The workshop’s goal was to fuel cooperative research with policy experts, social scientists and engineers.

A highlight of the workshop was on Wednesday, when members of the National Science Foundation presented their work on sustainability, resilience, and robustness by sharing the results from their project “Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructures,” which was followed by a question and answer session.

“Energy, Transportation and Water Infrastructures: Policy and Social Perspectives” brought together leaders from several different platforms.

Leaders from the social sciences; researches from the energy community, engineers in transportation and water infrastructure, current and former representatives of national and local regulatory agencies and industry leaders responsible for providing sustainable, resilient, and robust infrastructure at a reasonable cost were in attendance.

The workshop began Wednesday, and runs through Friday in the Iowa State Memorial Union.

Workshop speakers included Vice President of Regulation at MidAmerican Energy Company Dean A. Crist, Executive Director of the National Association of Water Companies Michael Deane and distinguished member at Sandia National Laboratories Michael Hightower.
