Sixth-ranked Longhorns snap Cyclones win streak

No. 6 Texas defeated the ISU softball team (18-20, 3-4 Big 12) 8-0 on Friday night in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns improved their record to 36-4 and remain undefeated in the Big 12 with the 5-inning win against the Cyclones.

Iowa State could not find an answer for UT ace Blaire Luhna, who struck out 11 Cyclones for a no-hitter to improve her record to 20-1.

Tori Torrescano took the loss for Iowa State. The loss dropped her record to 9-9 on the season, only able to strike out one batter in three innings of work. Sophomore Madison Jones came in for a relief appearance in allowing two hits and one run.

The Longhorns were led by Taylor Thom, who went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Erin Shireman went 2 for 3 and added 3 RBIs for Texas.

The Cyclones left three players stranded on base in the shortened game.

The teams will be back at it for game two, on Saturday, April 13, at 5 p.m.
