After a four-game winning streak, the ISU softball team was swept this weekend against No. 6 Texas (38-4, 8-0 Big 12), but it did not leave empty-handed.

Iowa State (18-22, 3-6) broke season records this weekend for RBIs and runs by scoring 229 runs off of 203 RBIs.

Although the losses of 8-0, 12-4 and 7-2 resulted in two shortened games, Tori Torrescano, Erica Miller and Brittany Gomez were able to capture single-season records of their own.

Torrescano was walked for a record-tying 26th time during Saturday’s game while another of Torrescano’s records at Iowa State may be in jeopardy.

Torrescano holds the record for most RBIs in a season at 44. Erica Miller currently has 42 RBIs, closing in on her fellow senior’s record. Miller also led the Cyclones in RBIs in 2011.

Freshman Brittany Gomez already has one record under her belt this season with the most steals. Now she is rapidly approaching the runs record. The record stands at 45 and Gomez currently has 40 runs.

Gomez will be just the third member of the ISU softball team to score 40-plus runs in one season.

Iowa State will host a doubleheader in Ames against Missouri-Kansas City on April 17, 2013, beginning its first game at 2 p.m.
