When ISU coach Bill Fennelly and his team travel to Dallas, Texas, for the Big 12 tournament this weekend, he plans on taking three suits and a goal of getting another shot at No. 1 Baylor.

If the Cyclones were to win their first two games of the tournament, they would likely get a rematch with the Lady Bears. The chance to play Baylor for the third time this season is something that would leave Fennelly exhausted, but excited.

With the Lady Bears sitting on the opposite side of the bracket as Iowa State, a meeting would not be possible until the championship game.

“I sincerely hope Sunday I’m sending my family out shopping and to dinner and say ‘I’ll see you Monday night,’ that would be perfect,” Fennelly said. “That would be a dream come true, trying to figure out something on Sunday night and Monday for that. Why not? That’s what makes it so much fun. You just want to be involved in this for a long, long time.”

ISU players share the same sentiments as their coach in regard to getting another shot against Baylor. Guard Brynn Williamson said that there would be a buzz of excitement at the opportunity to play Baylor again.

In Iowa State’s last game against Baylor, a 66-51 home loss on Jan. 23, Williamson finished the game with 11 points, nine rebounds and one assist.

“It’s Brittney Griner’s last tournament and it would be fun to go out there and go out with a bang and see what happens,” Williamson said.

The road to a rematch with Baylor begins with games between the No. 7 Kansas and No. 10 TCU. This season, the Cyclones split their series with the Jayhawks and Horned Frogs.

Knowing that Iowa State has lost to both teams this season on the road, for ISU point guard Nikki Moody, has been something that has brought a sense of reality to the team and made them realize that they will need to play a good game to come out with a win.

“It actually helps us knowing we lost to both teams because it gives us a will to play harder, knowing that it’s not just another game,” Moody said.

When Iowa State entered the Big 12 portion of its season, the goal was simple: Do not get swept by anyone other than perhaps Baylor and try to get as many sweeps against teams as you can.

While the Cyclones didn’t sweep the Jayhawks or the Horned Frogs, the preparation will be fairly straightforward despite Iowa State not knowing who it will be playing until March 8 after the first round of games.

For Fennelly and the rest of his team, their memories of Kansas and TCU are very fresh, and preparations for each will be equal in practice. Fennelly also has the sense that his team understands what is on the line in the post-season.

“This time of year, it’s not hard to get people’s attention,” Fennelly said. “It really isn’t because of the win-or-go-home kind of thing. But it does make it a little easier to prepare that way.”

Iowa State will play the winner of the game between Kansas and TCU at 6 p.m. on March 9, 2013 at American Airlines Center. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
