The ISU softball team has started off its road trip through the Sunshine State with a 1-1 record after day one in Clearwater, Fla.

The team knocked off Liberty 9-1 in six innings in the morning game on March 15 and fell to South Florida 6-0 in the afternoon matchup.

Senior Tori Torrescano homered twice against Liberty, recording her sixth career multi-homer game.

Sammi Shivock put the Flames on the board in the top of the third with an RBI-single for the early 1-0 lead, but the Cyclones would go on to score nine unanswered runs.

Torrescano’s second home run in the game drove in two runs, secured the win for the ISU team and ended the game without a seventh inning.

Brittany Gomez and Jorden Spendlove were the only other Cyclones to tally RBIs in the win. Spendlove had two and Gomez had one.

Taylor Smith (5-3) took the win for the Cyclones, with a complete game in the circle, giving up six hits, one run and two walks while striking out three.

The team was unable to plate any runs against and managed only two hits against South Florida in the second game of the day.

Bulls’ pitcher Sara Nevins threw a complete game only walking two batters while striking-out nine.

Torrescano (5-4) took the loss for the Cyclones. Her day in the circle ended after four and one-third innings of work in which she was charged with six runs, five earned, on eight hits. She walked three and struck out four.

The team is back to .500 (11-11) and will continue the trip through the sunshine state against Valparaiso and Rutgers on March 16.
