In its first game at the Easton Classic, the ISU softball team went into the last inning down two runs to St. John’s (3-9-1).

Trailing 9-7 with two strikes, the Cyclones started their comeback with a walk followed by a fielder’s choice to land Brittany Gomez and Sarah Hawryluk on first and second base.

Erica Miller drove in the two runners with a triple, just the second of her career. Tori Torrescano continued her season of good hitting with her third home run of the season bringing in her and Miller to take the lead 11-9.

Taylor Smith (3-1) secured the game for the Cyclones against the Red Storm with the help of her defense and a strike.

Later in its second game Iowa State played No. 1 and undefeated Alabama (19-0). After two innings, Iowa State found itself leading 4-3.

The lead did not last long as the Crimson Tide scored six runs the next inning and won the game in six innings 13-4.

Iowa State finished the day 1-1 to end with the record of 8-5.
