Cyclones Lose to Hawkeyes in Spring Opener

The Iowa State women’s tennis team opened the spring season with a 6-1 loss against Iowa Saturday in the Cy-Hawk rivalry.

The Cyclones lost two of the three doubles matches, giving the Hawks the doubles point.

The Cyclones top two singles players, Ksenia Pronina and Simona Cacciuttolo, lost in singles in straight sets.

Pronina, a sophomore, lost the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Cacciuttolo, a senior, lost the No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-2.

Meghan Cassens, a sophomore, lost the No. 3 singles match in three sets by a score, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.

Jenna Langhorst, a senior, came from behind to win the No. 5 singles match in three sets, by a score, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Ana Gasparovic, a freshman, was defeated in straight sets in the No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 6-0.

Emma Waites, a junior, lost in straight sets in the No. 6 singles matchup by a score of, 6-1, 6-4.

Iowa State is at home again in their next two meets, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. against Marquette, and Feb. 10, at 9 a.m. against Western Michigan.
