The ISU wrestling team began its stint on the East Coast with a 19-15 win against Rutgers on Friday night.

The Cyclones (2-3, 0-1 Big 12) counted on bonus points from Luke Goettl (141 pounds) and Kyven Gadson (197) to propel them to the win.

Other decisive victories for the Cyclones came from Michael Moreno (165), Tanner Weatherman (174) and Matt Gibson (heavyweight).

“Both Tanner and Matt Gibson were on the bottom down a point with the match on the line, and they both found a way to win,” said ISU coach Kevin Jackson. “Tanner is continuing to improve and building his confidence each and every match.”

Weatherman defeated No. 13 Greg Zannetti in a 9-7 sudden victory decision, while Gibson defeated Billy Smith 7-5.

The Cyclones return to action on Sunday with duals against Penn and Drexel.
