Jake Knott helped seal a second consecutive in-state victory against Iowa on Saturday, and on Monday he was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

With 1:11 remaining in the annual Cy-Hawk game, the senior linebacker tipped and intercepted Hawkeyes’ quarterback James Vandenberg’s pass. Iowa had been driving on the Cyclones before Knott sealed a 9-6 victory.

Knott had six tackles in the Cyclones’ second win of the season and played a large role in Iowa State holding Iowa to 68 yards rushing.

This is Knott’s second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award in his ISU career. Knott last won the award in Sept. 2010 following a 27-0 win against Northern Iowa, when he recorded 11 tackles with an interception.

For the Cyclones, this is the second conference honor in as many weeks. Last week Iowa State punter Kirby Van Der Kamp was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week.
