Team PrISUm and their solar race car, Hyperion, cruised to a victory of sorts Tuesday.

The team qualified for the cross country American Solar Challenge by having their car complete 125 laps around the 1.6-mile track at the Monticello Motor Club in New York. They beat the established lap standard required of 105 laps to qualify on the first day of competition.

Team PrISUm is currently in second place going into the three-day Formula Sun Grand Prix competition. The team is now hoping to garner a pole position for the upcoming American Solar Challenge, a 1,650-mile trek from Rochester, N.Y., to St. Paul, Minn. The University of Michigan leads the group with 145 laps.
