Editor’s Note:

Summer loving is on everyone’s minds these days, and the Daily wanted to find out what students’ plans were for the summer.

We asked around and ran into several students who were delighted to share their plans with us. From Long Beach to Ames to London; from working on planes to training for a marathon to attending the Olympics, it is clear that ISU students will be very busy this summer.

Name: Aaron Peterson

Year/Major: Senior/Industrial Engineering

Having an interest in both engineering and business, Peterson will be taking his talents this summer and fall to Gwinner, N.D., to work as an industrial engineering intern for farm and construction equipment giant, Bobcat.

“At Bobcat, I will be working on process improvements as well as doing other projects with a resident engineer,” Peterson said.

Although not entirely sure yet what his exact duties will be, Peterson said he is prepared to take on any challenge Bobcat throws at him.

In terms of obtaining the internship, Peterson said he simply stopped by Career Management Services a few months ago, researched Bobcat and obtained an interview at the career fair.

“At the career fair I was able to obtain a second interview. They said they would get back to me within two weeks, but they notified me within two hours that they had chosen me,” Peterson said.

Despite the opportunity to work with a company like Bobcat, Peterson has his reservations about the location, Gwinner, which has a population of 750, but he remains optimistic.

“I’m not too excited about the location, but I hear it has good fishing. They also have a golf course so I may have to get a membership,” Peterson said.

Luckily, Peterson said, he will have a car so he can get away once in a while to visit his fiancé, Katie, whom he plans to marry next summer.

“Hopefully this opportunity will allow me to get a good job, settle down in the Twin Cities and take as many trips around the world as I can.”
