Despite a torrential down pour and an untied shoe, former ISU track and field star Lisa Uhl (formerly known as Lisa Koll) punched her ticket to the 2012 London Olympics.

The 10,000-meter run that was ran in a down pour of rain Friday was everything but pretty.

Before the start of the two 10k races — men’s preceding the women’s — the rain had picked up to a steady fall as the women toed the start line.

Four laps into the race, what seemed like disaster struck the soon-to-be Olympian. Uhl’s shoe had come untied in one of the runner’s biggest moments.

After coming to the decision to stop and tie her shoe, Uhl had lost ground on the leaders. After working her way back to the fifth position, with six laps remaining, her shoe came untied again.

This time around Uhl left it untied. Finishing with time of 32:03.46, Uhl had finished quick enough to pace her way on to the Olympic Games in London.

The other Cyclone in the same 10k race, junior Meaghan Nelson, placed 12th to cap off an impressive season. The Cedar Rapids native said before heading to the trials that she was just looking forward to the experience of running at the Olympic Trials.
