ISU track and field teams chase conference title

The ISU men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back on the track at the Big 12 Championships in Manhattan, Kan., this weekend.

The Cyclones are coming off of a week long break from competition.

On the men’s side, sprinter Ian Warner is coming off of a successful Drake Relays performance. Warner helped move the Cyclones along during the windy relays.

The women’s team has a couple runners making headline news within the last week.

Unattached runner from Iowa State, Betsy Saina, set the world-leading mark in the 10,000-meter run two weeks ago at the Payton Jordan Invitational.

Also among the world’s leading 10k times is ISU distance runner Meaghan Nelson. She placed 17th at the Payton Jordan Invite.

The Cyclones will compete May 11-13 for the Big 12 Conference title. Members of the women’s track and field team were part of the cross country conference championship team earlier in the 2011 season.
