The ISU men’s and women’ track and field teams will be making the voyage to Austin, Texas, this weekend for the NCAA West Regionals. There, athletes will compete for final openings for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Iowa State has 25 athletes competing at this year’s regional meet. Of those 25, four are competing in the same event.

The 400-meter hurdles, discussed as one of the hardest events to run in track, is hosting four ISU hurdlers. Kianna Elahi, Ese Okoro, Donnise Powell and Krista Shoeman have all qualified for the regional competition from Iowa State.

Coach Nate Wiens says it has been special seeing the women come this far into the post-season and sticking together like they have.

The men’s track and field group has 11 athletes competing at the regional meet. Of those 11, Ian Warner will be competing for the 100- and 200-meter dash title.

On the distance portion of the track, the No. 2 colligate time in the nation in the 10,000-meter run is held by Iowa State’s Meaghan Nelson. Throughout the outdoor season, Nelson has improved her times and made her way to the top of the leader-board.

Also competing alongside Nelson will be teammate Dani Stack. Stack currently has the No. 7 collegiate time in the nation in the 10K.

Competition for the NCAA West Regional meet will begin May 24 and conclude on May 26.
