Man dies after falling from 4th floor balcony

Cmdr. Jim Robinson of the Ames Police Department said via phone Saturday evening that the name of the victim will not be released until at least Monday. He said the Ames Police Department is waiting to release the name until all the victim’s family members have been notified. 

Robinson also said there is no suspicion of foul play regarding the fall. Robinson explained the man was with a group of friends when he fell.

“It’s seems like a very tragic accident,” Robinson said. 


A 21-year-old male fell from a fourth floor balcony at 2519 Chamberlain St. early Saturday morning and was later pronounced dead at Mary Greeley Medical Center,  according to a news release issued by Cmdr. Jim Robinson of the Ames Police Department. 

At 1:52 a.m., Ames Police responded to a report of an individual who fell from a fourth floor balcony. The news release said police found a 21-year-old male, who was visiting Ames, unresponsive. 

The news release said the man was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center via ambulance and was pronounced dead due to the injuries received from the fall. 

The initial investigation indicated the fall was accidental, according to the news release. The release said the identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of his family.
