Minnesota tops ISU gymnastics

The ISU gymnastics team earned its highest score on the road against Minnesota on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to leave with a “W”.

Iowa State was outscored 196.125-195.375 in the loss to Minnesota. Senior Michelle Browning shared the honors of all-around champion of the meet with a score of 39.225.

The other star performance of the night came when senior Celine Paulus earned a career-high-tying 9.900 on her floor routine. This is the fourth performance this season where Paulus scored a 9.900 or higher.

With Iowa State (5-6, 0-2 Big 12) only having one regular season meet remaining against a top-10 Nebraska team, it will need a strong showing to get a good seeding at regionals.

Earlier this year, coach Jay Ronayne said he would like to see his team have six performances of 196.000 or higher, comparing it to the six wins needed by college football teams to make it to a bowl game. So far the Cyclones have none.

Iowa State travels to Nebraska on Friday, where it will try to get its first 196.000 performance of the year.
