Cyclones capitalize on Buffalo’s mistakes for 600th win

The ISU women’s basketball team cruised past Buffalo 65-45 in Hilton Coliseum on Friday, getting the program’s 600th win.

The first half ended with both teams committing rampant turnovers.

The Cyclones had six turnovers in the first half, which led to only three points for Buffalo, while Buffalo’s 10 turnovers led to seven points for Iowa State.

The Cyclones continued taking advantage of Buffalo’s missed opportunities in the second half. Buffalo shot 28 percent from the 3-point line while Iowa State shot 43 percent.

Iowa State had a nine-point run early in the second half and a 10-point run soon after.

The Cyclones crashed the boards throughout the contest, led by junior Chelsea Poppens and sophomore Hallie Christofferson. Poppens earned her sixth double-double on the season, and ended the game with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Christofferson nabbed 10 points and six rebounds, while senior Lauren Mansfield ended with 10 points and nine assists.

Iowa State will start conference play against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., on Wednesday.
