Letter: Walk-out can provide an opportunity

Dear Ms. Bruning,

While I understand your belief that “walking won’t inspire change,” I must disagree with you. Historically, boycotts, which are a form of walking out, have been venues for social change.

For example, the Montgomery bus boycotts during the civil rights movement of the ’60s brought about obvious social change. Furthermore, labor strikes, which are simply another form of walkout, gave rise to fair labor laws, decent wages and reasonable hours for workers.

That all being said, I think you will find the Occupy ISU protesters have legitimate complaints that they want addressed. So please, don’t view this as a walkout, so much as an opportunity.
