DES MOINES — Last year’s redshirt freshmen competed in the first cross-country meet of the year at the Drake Invite on Sept. 2 at Ewing Recreational Park in Des Moines.

The results of the meet were not immediately known.

“I don’t think we did very well on the team scoring,” said coach Corey Ihmels. “I think we probably got beat on both sides.”

The other runners in the 4,000-meter race included members from Northern Iowa and Drake. The race is not a competitive race for Iowa State.

Ihmels wanted to give the the redshirt athletes who have not competed in more than a year some experience.

“I thought everybody competed to where we’re at right now,” he said. “It was fun to see.”
