Bachmann receives 4,823 votes, wins Ames Straw Poll

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann received 4,823 of a total 16,892 votes cast Saturday, winning her the Ames Straw Poll.

Bachmann supporters outvoted supporters of congressman Ron Paul, who received 4,671 votes.

Governor Tim Pawlenty received 2,293 votes for third place.

Governor Mitt Romney, who did not participate in Saturday’s festivities, and former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich — who was in Ames, but not as a Straw Poll candidate — finished sixth and seventh with 567 and 385 votes going their way.
