ISU faculty and staff Q-and-A — Carol Chapelle

Katherine Klingseis

Name: Carol Chapelle

Official title at Iowa State: Distinguished professor of liberal arts and sciences

As a student, what was your favorite part about your first year in college?: Getting to take interesting and challenging classes. I did not find high school very interesting.

As a student, what were some challenges you faced in your first year in college?: What I remember most vividly was the distance I had to walk from my dorm to class. I went to Michigan State, which is almost twice the size of Iowa State, and I lived on the edge of campus, so it was a real hike to get from A to B.

What is some advice you would offer new ISU students?: Focus on your classes, and everything else will fall into place. Notice the beautiful campus that surrounds you. Recognize how fortunate you are to be here.
