Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Monday morning

Update (9:07 a.m. Monday, June 20):

The National Weather Service has canceled the severe thunderstorm watch for Story County.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook still indicates that intense storms could develop again this afternoon. The Iowa State Daily will continue to monitor the weather and post any updates as they become available.

 


The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Story County until 10 a.m. Boone and Polk counties are also included in the watch.

The NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook indicates that a few severe thunderstorms will be possible this morning. These storms could produce hail 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

Intense storms will be possible again this evening. The second wave of storms could produce golf ball size hail, win gusts of 70 mph and localized heavy rain, according to the outlook.
