One VEISHEA event will strive to bring ISU students together.

The Harambee, sponsored by the Black Student Alliance, plans to do exactly what the event means — “pulling together.” The word comes from Swahili.

“[The Harambee] is a talent show sponsored by BSA,” said Monae Lane, president of the Black Student Alliance and a junior in management.

Though the Harambee student talent show is sponsored by the BSA, it isn’t only for students in the BSA or African-American students.

“It’s open to everyone,” said Lane.

The Harambee will take place at 6 p.m. Friday.

This year’s theme, “Do You,” is based on the idea of doing what you love without being concerned with what other people think. The theme also involves YouTube.

The BSA found a cool way to involve the cyber talent presented on the video-sharing site.

“In between acts we’ll show some of the most popular YouTube videos that a lot of students talk about,” said Lane.

“Charlie bit my finger” is one of the possible featured videos.

Lane said the Harambee is always a popular event. And has been packed since she first attended the even freshman year.

Last year, the theme was “American Idol.”

The judges, Lane said, will be the executive council of the Black Student Alliance.
