Softball team pushes record to 3-0

The ISU softball team advanced its record to 3-0 at its home invitational, 9-1 over the Western Illinois Leathernecks.

The Cyclones completed the two-game sweep of the Leathernecks, pummeling their opponents 26-1 in the series.

Breanna Holliday worked her first game from the mound, and notched her first win. The freshman allowed only one earned run on six hits while facing 22 batters.

Designated hitter Dalyn Varela was the catalyst for the Cyclones with her three run home run in the second inning. Varela finished the game with three hits and four RBI’s.

Heidi Kidwell and Tori Torrescano continued their strong weekends with two runs scored apiece.

The Cyclones will put their 3-0 tournament record on the line against South Dakota State at 7:30 p.m. in the Bergstrom Indoor Facility and close out the invitational with a doubleheader against Valpraiso on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
