Ames man held on forgery charges

Ames police arrested Mark Dearborn again Sunday after an investigation relating to counterfeit bills led officers to him. He was charged with two additional counts of forgery, each a Class D felony, according to a news release from the Ames Police Department.

Dearborn, 28, of Ames, was charged Jan. 7 with forgery as a result of counterfeit bills being found in his possession, according to the release.

Dearborn was released from the Story County Jail on Jan. 14 after posting bond for the initial forgery charge.

Between Dec. 27, 2010, and Jan. 23, 2011, the Ames Police Department received in excess of 20 reports of counterfeit $20 and $50 bills being circulated within the Ames area.

After Dearborn was released from jail, additional cases relating to counterfeit bills were reported to Ames police. Continued investigation into these offenses resulted in him being arrested again.

Dearborn is again being held at the Story County Jail in lieu of $20,000. The investigation into the counterfeit bills continues. Additional charges relating to this case may be forthcoming.
