Dorm decorating

The holidays are full of fun and warmth, but so often in college dorm rooms, you can miss out on the holiday feeling if you don’t a have a few decorations to make your room a bit warmer. Here are some tips to bring the holiday spirit home to your room without dropping a lot of cash.

Paper Snowflakes

Make paper snowflakes and hang them from your ceiling and/or loft.

“Its super easy and would be a great way to not only have holiday decorations but also, decorations for all winter long,” said Calie Wallace, freshman in elementary education.

All you need is some white printer paper or if you are feeling colorful, some construction paper and scissors. This is something that you could hang up after Thanksgiving and keep up until the snow melts in the spring.

Coloring Pages

Coloring books are also an inexpensive way to decorate your room. Simply go buy some crayons and color away.

“It’s fun to personalize them with glitter and give them to your friends,” said Wallace.

Strings of lights are also a great way to brighten your room and add some holiday spirit. Many college students use them year round, but add some holiday colored ones for the season to add cheer to the room. You can also make some pretty nifty window displays with the lights taped to your windows.

Mini-Trees

You can also purchase an artificial mini-tree for as little as $15 at some stores, which is a great option for some of the bigger dorm rooms. Some trees come pre-lit and with sets of little ornaments for just a few dollars more.

Another great decorating idea for the braver students is a bit of mistletoe just inside your room. Just make sure you don’t hang it right in your door way other wise you’ll be kissing everyone who walks through your door.
